Ask Alexa: KidCash Balances from Any Echo
Check kid balances hands-free from any Amazon Echo. Here's how to enable the KidCash Alexa skill and what you can ask.
If you've ever wanted to check a kid's balance from the kitchen while your hands are covered in flour — or settle a "how much do I have?" debate without pulling out your phone — the new KidCash Alexa skill is for you.
Just say:
"Alexa, ask KidCash how much Nati has."
Alexa replies with the balance. That's it. No app, no phone, no screens.
What You Can Ask
Check a single kid's balance
"Alexa, ask KidCash what Rafi's balance is." "Alexa, ask KidCash how much money Amiel has." "Alexa, ask KidCash to check on Zeke."
Check the family total
"Alexa, ask KidCash what the family total is." "Alexa, ask KidCash how much my kids have."
The skill understands first names (with fuzzy matching for mispronunciations) and falls back gracefully if Alexa mishears.
How to Enable the Skill
- Open the Amazon Alexa app on your phone (or alexa.amazon.com).
- Search for "KidCash" in the Skills & Games section.

- Tap Enable to Use.
- Sign in with your KidCash account — this is a one-time account link that lets Alexa talk to your specific family data.
- Say the launch phrase: "Alexa, open KidCash."
That's the whole setup. Once linked, any Echo device on your Amazon account can answer balance questions for your kids.
How It Works (Behind the Scenes)
The skill uses standard OAuth account linking — the same mechanism Alexa uses for Spotify, banking skills, and smart-home integrations. Your Amazon account and your KidCash account are joined via a short-lived code exchanged during the "Enable to Use" step. No passwords are shared; no data leaves KidCash without your authorization.
Alexa only ever reads balances. The skill cannot add or subtract money, reset anything, or see transactions — we intentionally kept the read-only scope so a guest asking Alexa can't accidentally change anything.
If you want to add or remove money hands-free, use Siri on an Apple device — that integration supports the full parent workflow.
Why an Alexa Skill?
Most parents we talked to had an Echo in the kitchen. Chores happen in the kitchen. Snack negotiations happen in the kitchen. Asking Alexa mid-dishes to settle "do I have enough for the Lego set?" turned out to be the feature people kept requesting.
Privacy
- The skill never stores voice recordings.
- Amazon handles speech-to-text; KidCash only receives the parsed intent (e.g., "get balance for Nati").
- You can disable the skill at any time from the Alexa app, which immediately revokes its access to your KidCash account.
What's Next
We're working on support for a few more voice commands like "what's Rafi's savings goal progress?" If there's a specific voice command you'd use, email us — we build the ones parents actually ask for.
Until then, happy hands-free balance-checking. 🎉
