KidCash is Now Live on Google Play

The native Android app is here. Same features as iOS — chores, allowance, savings goals, QR bills — and one tap from your home screen.

If you've been refreshing the Play Store waiting for us — thanks for the patience. KidCash is now live on Google Play.

What's in the box

The Android app has full feature parity with iOS, not a stripped-down companion. That includes:

  • Add and subtract money with the same quick-action tiles you see on the dashboard
  • Chore approvals — kids tap Done on their profile, you get a notification and approve in one tap
  • Recurring allowances — weekly, biweekly, or monthly, with auto-pay
  • Savings goals + wishlist — kids see their progress bar grow in real time
  • Printable QR bills — generate from your phone, print at home, kids redeem by scanning
  • App Shortcuts — long-press the icon for "Add Money" and "Subtract Money" deep links straight into the dashboard
  • The dark theme system — all 9 themes (aurora, frosted-crystal, candy-glow, etc.) work the same on Android

Why it took longer

Honest answer: we wanted it to feel native, not like an iOS app squeezed onto a smaller screen. That meant:

A small, square iOS app icon struggles to fit into a round Android phone screen cutout, with a tiny thought bubble above it containing a "squeeze" motion.

  • Material You-friendly icons that adapt to your launcher's theme
  • Proper Android App Shortcuts (the long-press menu) instead of "open the app and dig"
  • Notification permissions handled the Android way (opt-in via the notification channel system)

It also meant we put it through TestFlight's Android equivalent (Google Play Internal Testing) for real testing instead of shipping a v1 with the obvious bugs.

For mixed-OS households

This is the bigger story. About 40% of US households are mixed-OS — one parent on iPhone, one on Android, kids on whatever's been handed down. KidCash now works on every device in those families:

  • Mom adds $5 to Rafi's balance from her Pixel
  • Dad checks who has pending chores from his iPhone
  • Rafi opens his profile on the family iPad and sees the new balance instantly

Same account, same data, same dashboard. The kid's public profile URL works on any browser too.

How to get it

  1. Open Google Play on your Android phone
  2. Search "KidCash" or tap this direct link

A smiling cartoon hand holds up a smartphone displaying a colorful app store icon, with a playful magnifying glass hovering over the screen.

  1. Install — it's free for one kid forever, and you can upgrade to Family or Big Family any time

If you already have a KidCash account from the web or iOS, sign in with the same email — your kids, transactions, and settings come right over.

What's next on Android

  • Widgets — kid balance + quick-add tiles on the home screen, similar to the iOS lock-screen and home-screen widgets we shipped earlier this year
  • Wear OS app — the Apple Watch parity we keep getting asked for, in motion now
  • Google Assistant — equivalent of our Siri integration, voice-based "Add $5 to Rafi for chores"

We'll post here when each lands.
