How Long Has Rafi Wanted That Switch? Now You'll Know

Each item on a kid's wishlist now shows when it was added — 'Added 3 days ago' under the goal name. Small change, useful prompt for the 'is this still the goal?' conversation.

Tiny feature, surprisingly useful: each savings goal on a kid's wishlist now shows how long it's been there.

🎯 Nintendo Switch — $300 Added 12 days ago

That second line is new.

Why it matters

Kid wishlists evolve fast. Something they were obsessed with three weeks ago may have already been replaced by the next thing. But because they added it (and it's their balance funding it), parents often don't notice when a goal has gone stale.

Now you do. The "Added X days ago" timestamp gives you a natural prompt for the "hey, is the Switch still the goal, or are we saving for the new Lego set now?" conversation.

The longer the timestamp, the more likely the goal has lost steam. We've found that goals over 30 days old where the kid is still under 30% of target are usually candidates for a check-in. Goals under 14 days old are where the energy is.

How it works

  • Every goal added on the kid-facing profile or the parent edit page gets stamped with createdAt = now().
  • The "Added today / Added 1 day ago / Added N days ago" label renders under each goal on both surfaces.

A child's hand points excitedly at a vibrant piggy bank, next to which a small, empty thought bubble floats, while a calendar hangs on the wall with the current date circled.

  • Editing a goal (renaming it, changing the target, adding an image) does not reset the timestamp. The clock measures how long they've wanted this — not how long the metadata has been current.
  • Setting up a fresh wishlist after deleting old ones starts the clock from scratch on the new goals.

A toggle in case you don't want it

Some parents told us they'd rather not see the age — for kids who get easily discouraged by a long wait, the timestamp can read as pressure. We added a toggle in Settings → 🎨 Appearance → Show Wishlist Item Age (default on). Flip it off and the labels disappear everywhere.

What about old goals?

Goals that were on the wishlist before this feature shipped didn't have a createdAt timestamp. We backfilled all of them with the date the feature went live — so for now they'll all read "Added today" and grow naturally from there. New goals from this point forward use their actual creation date.

A child points to a newly-hatched chick emerging from an eggshell with a small "Added today" tag, while a row of other identical "Added today" chicks are also pecking out of their shells in the background.

A note on framing

We deliberately wrote the label as "Added X days ago" rather than "Wanting for X days" or "On wishlist for X days." The first is neutral data. The other two are emotional framing that can work either for or against a kid depending on how it lands. Neutral data lets each family read the timestamp the way they want.
